South Shore Campground

From Jackson go 40 miles east on Highway 88, turn right onto Bear River Reservoir road. 22 sites. There is piped water, picnic tables, toilets, grills, and fire-rings, but no hook-ups. Elevation: 5,900 feet. Fee: $12.00 per night. South Shore Campground

From Carson, Take Highway 88 6.6 miles east ( or 2.5 miles west of the Highway 88/89 junction ). Take Blue Lakes Road 12 miles south. Silver Creek Campground

Located 11.7 miles south of Markleeville, California, on State Highway 4, east of Ebbetts Pass. Campground located in open pine, mountain canyon setting. Highway 4 becomes steep uphill, narrow and winding at campground. Pacific Crest Trailhead is 1/4 mile east of Ebbetts Pass (8731') and 3 miles west of campground. Campground has paved roads and spurs with vault toilets. Each site has table and firering. Firewood may be purchased from campground manager. Roadside picnic table available. Centerville Flat Campground

Markleeville Campground

From Markleeville, Take Highway 89 south. This campground is located along Millberry Creek (known by most as Markleeville Creek) just south of the nifty town of Markleeville, down in a canyon below Highway 89. The back sites along the river are pretty, green and well shaded. The front two sites are pretty spartan, with little to no shade and a view of a sagebrush covered hill. The campground is small with attentive hosts (in season). Fishing can be good in the creek and nearby in the East Fork of the Carson River. 10 camp units. Vault Toilets, piped water, fire rings. Grover Hot Springs State Park

The park is located south of Lake Tahoe, three miles west of Markleeville on Hot Springs Road. Grover Hot Springs State Park is situated in a small alpine valley of forest and meadows at 6000'. Best known for its hot pool that is fed by hot springs, the small campground is also a popular family destination. A trout creek runs through the park and hiking trails lead into scenic Forest Service lands. The hot pool and recreation pool are open all year. During the winter there are a limited number of campsites available first come-first served, and cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the valley. 76 sites. Crystal Springs Campground

Indian Creek Campground

29 camp units. Indian Creek campground is located at Indian Creek Reservoir inside the Bureau of Land Management's Indian Creek Recreation Area, approximately 10 miles northeast of Markleeville. Access is completely paved from SR 89. This campground has nice facilities in the transition zone between forest and high desert. Campsites are located in fairly dense forest of Ponderosa/Jeffrey pine and the squattier desert pion pine. The entrance area sites are little less shady but have good lake access (these sites are for tents only). Sites in the rear loop are shadier and allow RV's (but have limited to no lake access). Silver Creek Campground

From Placerville, Travel east along Highway 50 until the junction for Ice House Road. Next travel north along Ice House Road until the signs for Silver Creek Campground. China Flat Campground

From Placerville, Take Highway 50 thirty miles east, turn south at Kyburz on the Silver Fork Road. The campground is located 3 miles from Kyburz, on the Silver Fork of the American River. 18 sites. Vault Toilets, tables, piped water, fire rings. Elevation: 4,800 feet. China Flat Campground

Ice House Campground

From Pollock Pines continue on Hwy 50 east 9 miles to Ice House Road. Turn north on Ice House Road toward Crystal Basin and travel 10.5 miles to Ice House Reservoir turn-off. Travel 1.5 miles farther to Ice House Reservoir. 83 camp units. Vault Toilets, piped water, fire rings. Elevation: 5,500 ft. Fee: $15.00 per night. Reservations available: Ice House Campground

Wrights Lake

From Placerville, Travel 20 miles east along Highway 50, turn north onto Ice House Road and travel 9 miles to a signed right turn to the Ice House Campground (two miles). At the campground, take the left fork of the road which will take you 7 miles east to Wrights Lake Road, then turn left, two miles to Wrights Lake. Horse Camping. Piped Water, Vault toilets. 70 sites. Elevation: 7,000 ft. Fees: $12.00 per night. Reservations available: Wrights Lake

Union Valley Reservoir Area

 

Wench Creek Campground

On Highway 50, go 21 miles east of Placerville to Riverton. Turn left on Icehouse Riverton Road. Go 19 miles north to Wench Creek turnoff, turn left to campground. Located on the east shore of Union Valley Reservoir, this complex is situated in a beautiful ponderosa pine forest at an elevation of 4900 feet. The Wench Creek Complex has two 50 - person group campsites and 100 single - family campsites. The family sites are completely first come, first serve (not reserveable). Firewood is sold at the campground. The Union Valley Bike Trail runs through the complex. The group sites have flush toilets, piped water, and group fire rings and grills. 100 camp units. Sunset Campground

Highway 50, east of Placerville for 21 miles to Icehouse Road turnoff on left. North 16 miles to campground. Sunset Peninsula is located in a ponderosa pine forest at an elevation of 5000 feet. Facilities include 131 family sites, a 30-unit tent camping area, a swimming beach, Fashoda (which is not reservable), a boatramp with an accessible boarding dock, a paved parking area, a dump station, and the Union Valley Bike Trail. Jones Fork Campground

To reach this campground take Highway 50, east of Placerville. Go 21 miles to Icehouse Road. Turn left on Icehouse Road. Go 21 miles north to Yellowjacket turnoff. French Meadows Campground

Take Highway 80 to the Foresthill Road, travel 17 miles east to Foresthill. Turn right on Mosquito Ridge Road and travel 34 miles east to the French Meadow Reservoir, the French Meadows Campground is on the south shore. Campground is located in a coniferous forest with a reservoir nearby. Summer days are warm to hot, evenings are cool. Restrooms and drinking water are provided. All roads and parking areas are paved. Sites are reservable from mid-May through early September. Some sites are available on a first come, first serve basis. 75 sites. Vault Toilets, tables, piped water, fire rings. Robinson Flat Campground

From Foresthill, Travel 27 miles northeast on Foresthill Divide Rd and follow signs to the campground. Robinson Flat Campground is located 27 miles northeast of Foresthill at an elevation of 6,800 feet. This campground has 5 campsites and vault toilets. There is no trash removal service so pack out what you pack in. There is no water other than the creek, so purify your water or bring it in. The road to the campground is narrow and winding so trailers are not recommended. Robinson Flat Campground

Big Reservoir Lake

From Foresthill, Travel west on Foresthill Divide Rd and look for signs for Big Reservoir on the left. Turn left and proceed to the reservoir and campground. Big Reservoir Campground is located 13 miles northeast of Foresthill. This campground has 18 campsites with tables and fire rings. On site is limited firewood, potable water, trailer space and toilets. 18 sites. Elevation: 4,000 ft. Fees: $12.00 per night . Big Reservoir Campground

Hell Hole Reservoir

 

Upper Hell Hole Campground

22 miles east of Georgetown on Wentworth Springs Road and 29 miles northeast on Forest Highway 2 to Hell Hole Reservoir, then 3 miles northeast on trail or boat. Upper Hell Hole is considered among the best and most scenic walk-in campsites in California. Situated in Buck Meadow near the rim of a massive granite gorge, the view overlooks the shocking blue waters of Hell Hole Reservoir. Starting at the southwest corner of the lake, the hike to Buck Meadow is three miles from its trailhead. The hike is rated moderate-to-difficult, but anyone who's done it says the payoff is worth every step. 15 camp units. Vault Toilets, stream water, tables. Elevation: 4,600 ft. Fee: None. Poppy Campground

From Foresthill, Travel 36 miles east on Mosquito Ridge Rd. and proceed to the campground. The campground is located on the northwest shore of the reservoir and is accessible only by boat or trail. It is approximately one mile from the McGuire parking lot to the campground. Poppy Campground is located on the northwest shore of French Meadows Reservoir at an elevation of 5,300 feet. The campground is only accessible by boat or trail, it is approximately one mile from McGuire parking lot to the campground. This campground has 12 campsites. There are no toilets, no drinkable water and no trash removal service so pack out what you pack in. The Reservoir is the only water source so be sure to purify before drinking. 12 camp units. Lewis Campground

From Foresthill, Travel 36 miles east on Mosquito Ridge Rd. and proceed to campground. The campground is located on the north shore of the reservoir. Lewis Campground is located on the north shore of French Meadows Reservoir at an elevation of 5,300 feet. This campground has 40 sites with tables and grills. There are toilets and potable water, as well as a boat launch. Activities include fishing, swimming, boating, picnicking, hiking and viewing scenery. Elevation: 5,300 feet. Lewis Campground
